The month of May kicked-off with RJ Cares, our month of the celebration of giving to the communities in which we live and work! On Thursday, April 28, Raymond James associates in Toronto and Vancouver got together over pizza to learn more about the importance of volunteerism. Both lunches raised over 400 dollars in support of the Raymond James Canada Foundation, and will be used to purchase non-perishable food products and toiletries for those in need across Canada.
Featured at the pizza lunch in Toronto was Susanne Alexandor of Cougar Global Investments who spoke to her involvement with Project Sunshine and the opportunity for Raymond James associates to volunteer with children, mothers and caretakers on Mother’s Day. Susanne was joined by RJCF members Rob Pollard and Tina Seifert who reinforced the important of giving back and our company wide goal of 2,000 volunteer hours. Among special guests in Vancouver was Paul Allison, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer who reinforced Raymond James' core values and Leah LaRiviere, Executive Director of Prostate Cancer Foundation BC, who highlighted our sponsorship of the Raymond James Father's Day Walk Run in BC on June 19, 2016.
A highlight of both lunches was a visit from Canadian Blood Services representatives Beth Frise and Sarah Jasmins, who advocated the importance of donating blood year round, providing our audiences with staggering statistics about how much blood is needed to save a life. In Toronto, Beth brought a special guest along, Venetia, who talked about her two battles with bone and lung cancer. Throughout her treatment, Venetia estimates that she’s had over 250 blood transfusions. She is now a healthy, happy young woman living and working in Toronto, and credits the generous strangers who have taken the time to give blood.
Colleagues in Toronto's Raymond James office presented Beth and Venetia with a donation cheque of $1000 to Canadian Blood Services, in support of education across the country.
