May is Raymond James Cares Month, and these warmer spring days are a perfect opportunity to go out and do something GREAT for our community. On May 5th, 2015, we saw that happen as East and West united to volunteer for two causes!
In Vancouver, Raymond James colleagues volunteered for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society (GVFBS), which runs essential food and skill-building programs for those in need. The group spent three hours sorting through ten donation bins, completing quality checks, and boxing up products.
Michelle Lylack, Senior Associate, Account Transfers, commented: “It was a learning experience; if the Food Bank were to pay all their volunteers, it would be equivalent to 40 full-time staff. Without the time and effort of its volunteers, it would not be capable of functioning in its current capacity and would not be able to provide all its existing programs.”
Volunteers certainly make a big difference in helping agencies like the Food Bank to reach out to as many disadvantaged individuals as possible. Thank you to the amazing Vancouver team!

That same day, Toronto colleagues travelled to Oakville, Ontario, to help out at Erinoak Kids, an organization that provides care for families who greatly need assistance in what is often a full-time job -- caring for a child with special needs. The group cleaned cupboards and took inventory of a wide range of toys used for the kids’ therapy. As a thank you, they were given beautiful cards handmade by the kids!

“Erinoak Kids makes a tremendous difference for these magnificent children with disabilities and for their families,” said Rob Pollard, Senior VP, Portfolio Manager, PCG, Toronto 53rd branch. “By increasing the child’s skills, knowledge, and capabilities, Erinoak Kids increases the child’s quality of life. We at Raymond James were very lucky for the opportunity to make a small contribution to an association that makes such a big difference.”

Congratulations to the Toronto team for their outstanding efforts!
In the month of May … Every minute counts!
We are a caring firm all year round, but May is that special month when we have the chance to really do more and better than last year. Help us reach 1,000 hours of volunteer participation in this country-wide initiative!
If you’ve already volunteered, please don’t forget to email your total team or individual hours to firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can see that arrow rise! Opportunities that count towards the grand total are:
An RJ-planned volunteer event attended by you and/or family. Hours must be emailed to email@example.com (excludes registrations made through the Toronto sign up forms, as we already have those).
A personal volunteer event attended by you. Yes, it ABSOLUTELY counts – but only if you email us the hours. Did a family member/friend participate with you? You can add their hours with yours!
Let’s gather the strength of our firm and hit the 1,000 on the high striker!
Is your branch also doing a food drive? Send us an update at firstname.lastname@example.org with the number of pounds collected so far!
